Travelling to Galway

By Plane

Ireland West Airport is located 6km from Charlestown in Mayo and Shannon Airport is located in Clare. Scheduled services are operated by major Irish and International airlines to and from the UK, mainland Europe and USA out of Shannon.

By Boat

The main ports of entry are Cork, Dublin and Rosslare – all of which are betwen 3 and 4 hours drive from Galway. Brittany Ferries operates a service between Cork-Roscoff (France). Clare is also accessible via ferry from Rosslare and Dublin. Both ports offer daily services between Ireland-UK and services to France and Northern Spain.  The following companies offer ferry services into Ireland – Stena Line, Irish Ferries, P&O Ferries, Kintyre Express, and Isle of Man Steam Packet

By Bus

Bus Éireann provide services to County Galway from Dublin, Clare, Sligo and other areas

By Train

The Dublin / Galway line serves Co. Galway with stations at Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Attymon, Athenry and Galway City.

Whats to See and Do in Galway

Ireland’s National Aquarium, Atlantaquaria, is located in Salthill on the outskirts of Galway City. It is home to the country’s largest display of sea life. You can get hands-on holding starfish, crabs and sea scorpions at the Touch Pools, see freshly hatched baby fish in the Aquaculture Rearing Centre, and of course, don’t miss feeding time at the (fish) zoo, with a regular schedule throughout the day.

Aran Islands

A 35-minute spin along the beautiful Galway coastline from Salthill brings you to Rossaveal where you can hop on the ferry to the Aran Islands.  The limestone walls, golden beaches and jagged sea cliffs transport you to another world

Connemara National Park

Connemara National Park covers some 3,000 hectares of scenic mountains, expansive bogs, glorious grasslands and enchanting woodlands. Explore and admire the incredible scenery where rugged mountains dominate the dramatic landscape.
