Enjoy a mini-break over Easter

Easter holiday weekend is fast approaching and we are all looking forward to taking time out from our busy schedules. There is a lot happening over the holidays with great activities for families throughout the country.

A lot of the caravan & camping parks are re-opening this week and look forward to welcoming you to their sites. Why not dust off the caravan or motorhome, air the tent and plan a few days away over the Easter. Easter is an ideal time to have a few days away, visit family and friends, visit some of the great sites and attractions around the country and experience the great outdoors.

Why not combine your few days away with some of the great Easter Egg hunts taking place around the country. The National Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig, County Wexford will host a big Easter Egg Hunt this Easter Weekend. Barnardos will once again partner with the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt in Dublin?s Merrion Square on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st March 2018. In Roscommon, Lough Key Forest & Activity Park has a host of activities taking place over the Easter holidays from craft classes to a Mad Hatter Easter Magic Show and floral classes. Caravan & camping parks will also be organising their own Easter egg hunts for visitors to the park, a great excuse to eat loads of chocolate. If you are travelling to Kerry, the Easter Craft Workshop takes place at Siamsa Tire Tralee from 4th to 6th April and will be a great activity for the young members of the family.

There are a number of festivals taking place over Easter. The Viking Fest takes place in Dublin this weekend. Step back in time to witness displays of Viking weaponry, watch tablet weaving and quern-stone demonstrations, play traditional Viking games and explore two full-size Viking longships which will be moored at Wood Quay for all to enjoy. Bring your hiking boots and your sense of adventure and explore the trails ? and the Enchanted Forest ? around Slieve Aughty.

The spectacular International Viking Festival and Roadshow will travel all the way from Reykjavík in Iceland to bring the story of the Vikings to Waterford this Easter weekend. The highlight is a dramatic live show called Follow the Vikings which takes place twice on Easter Monday 2nd April in The Apple Market. It will features music, drumming, poetry, and creatures from Norse myths brought to life in front of a stunning video backdrop. The 47th International Pan Celtic Festival comes to Letterkenny, Donegal from 3rd to 8th April celebrating music, song, dance, pageantry, langua

ges and sports, of the six Celtic nations – Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany.

Why not go the races over Easter. The Fairyhouse Easter Festival in Meath features two of the biggest races in Irish racing calendar – The Ryanair Gold Cup and the Boyle Sports Irish Grand National. Tuesday is Family Fun Day with special fun for all the kids to enjoy a day at the races.

Easter is also a great time to get out walking and cycling. In Mayo, the Westport Easter Walking Festival takes place over the weekend and is the first major walking weekend of 2018. You could also take your bikes on the many dedicated cycling routes around the country including the Waterford Greenway, the Great Western Greenway, the Old Rail Trail in the Midlands and the Great Eastern Greenway from Carlingford. Pitch up your tent, hook-up your caravan or park up your motorhome in one of the many caravan parks located along these walking and cycling routes and experience the great outdoors.
